Eligibility Criteria for Federal Skilled Worker
To qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program, applicants must meet the following mandatory requirements:
Work Experience:
- At least one year of work experience within the last 10 years in an occupation listed under the NOC job classifications for managerial, professional, or technical jobs, or skilled trades.
- This must be either one year of continuous full-time paid work experience or an equivalent amount of paid part-time work experience.
- Work experience gained during studies will be counted if it is paid, continuous, and without any gaps.
Language Proficiency:
- A minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level of 7 in all four language abilities (reading, writing, listening, speaking) in English or French, with test scores valid for at least two years from the date of the PR application.
Education:
- A completed foreign education credential, assessed by a designated organization to confirm its equivalency to Canadian standards, or
- A certificate, diploma, or degree from a Canadian high school or post-secondary institution.
Financial Stability:
- Demonstrated financial ability to sustain yourself and your family in Canada unless you have a job offer or can legally work in Canada.
Admissibility:
- Applicants must not be barred from entering Canada for reasons related to security, human rights violations, organized crime, medical conditions, or other restrictions.
Province or Territory:
- The application must be submitted for any province or territory in Canada, except Quebec.
Calculating Points for Federal Skilled Worker
The FSW program uses a points system based on the following factors: Age, Language, Work Experience, Education, Arranged Employment in Canada, and Adaptability.
1. Age: Maximum of 12 points, gradually decreasing after 35 years.
